The Story Behind This Print
Most of Deadvlei’s ancient camel thorn trees stand in loose clusters across the clay pan (see I AM GROOT for their centuries-old backstory) — but this one stands entirely apart from the rest, isolated on its own patch of cracked clay with nothing but open pan around it.
That isolation is the whole picture here. Set apart from every other tree in the vlei, it looks less like it’s simply alone and more like it’s being kept that way — solitary confinement, centuries in.
Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
