The Story Behind This Print
Another of Deadvlei’s ancient camel thorn trees (see I AM GROOT for the story of how they came to stand here, blackened but never decomposed, for centuries). This one is different from the rest — its trunk leans hard, bent at an angle that looks like it should have brought the whole tree down long ago.
It hasn’t. Centuries after the Tsauchab River was cut off and these trees lost their water, this one is still standing, just at an angle — bent, but unbroken.
Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
