The Story Behind This Print
Where Neighbors is a pair of Deadvlei’s ancient camel thorn trees standing close together, this one widens out to a larger cluster — several trees of clearly different sizes and ages, rooted in the same patch of clay pan (see I AM GROOT for how they came to stand here, centuries after the river that once fed them disappeared).
Grouped together like this, with trees of different scale standing shoulder to shoulder, it reads less like a random scattering and more like a family — generations of the same lineage, still standing together long after the water ran out.
Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
