The Story Behind This Print
Sandstone carved into waves inside Waterholes Slot Canyon, near Page, Arizona — water and wind working the rock for thousands of years to leave lines like these.
Waterholes is a slot canyon south of Page, on Navajo Nation land, and like its better‑known neighbours it is entered by permit and with a guide. The lines in the walls aren’t decorative. They are the bedding of an ancient dune field, exposed by flash floods tearing through the slot carrying sand — the same abrasive that laid the rock down is what is now cutting it apart. The polish on the lower walls marks how high the water gets.
Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
