The Story Behind This Print
The Green River Overlook in Canyonlands National Park, Utah, where the canyon drops away in layers all the way down to the river.
Canyonlands is cut into three districts by the two rivers that made it, and this overlook is on the Island in the Sky — a mesa standing above the confluence with sheer drops to either side. The layers stepping down from the rim are a straight read of geological time, oldest at the bottom, each one a different ancient environment turned to stone. The Green River is the small detail at the bottom of all of it, and the one that did the work.
Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
