The Story Behind This Print
Iceland’s midnight sun ducking briefly behind the horizon in summer — never fully setting, just dipping low enough to paint the sky before climbing back up.
Mainland Iceland sits just south of the Arctic Circle, which means it never quite gets a true midnight sun — the sun does set in summer, but barely, and only for a short while. The practical effect is better than the real thing. Instead of a sun that stays up and stays bright, you get hours of the low, raking light that normally lasts minutes, and a sunset that runs straight into a sunrise without ever going properly dark in between.
Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
