The Story Behind This Print
Icebergs calved from Greenland’s Sermeq Kujalleq glacier, drifting in Disko Bay near Ilulissat and mirrored perfectly on the still water.
The ice in Disko Bay comes off Sermeq Kujalleq, one of the fastest‑moving and most productive glaciers in the northern hemisphere, and the reason the Ilulissat Icefjord is a UNESCO World Heritage site. A shallow moraine runs across the fjord mouth, and icebergs ground on it and sit there — sometimes for years — until they melt down enough to float over and out into the bay. When the wind drops, a bay holding ice that size goes completely still.
Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
