The Story Behind This Print
Layered golden light over the Icelandic landscape, caught in that narrow window when the sun sits low enough to turn everything warm.
Iceland’s advantage isn’t that the light is better, it is that there is far more of the good kind. The island sits just below the Arctic Circle, so for much of the year the sun travels at a shallow angle instead of climbing overhead — the golden hour that lasts twenty minutes at lower latitudes can run most of an evening here. Low sun also separates a landscape into layers, lighting the ridgelines and leaving the ground between them in shadow, which is what is happening in this frame.
Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
