The Story Behind This Print
Mesa Arch is one of those shots almost every landscape photographer wants in their collection — which is exactly what makes it hard to get. There are only a handful of spots along the rim where a tripod actually fits, and they fill up fast.
We arrived around 4am and just barely got the last two spots. Then came the wait: more than two hours standing in the dark before the sun finally cleared the horizon and lit up the underside of the arch like this. It’s a long, cold wait for a moment that lasts only a few minutes — but watching that sunrise light up the arch in person is something else entirely.
Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
