The Story Behind This Print
Light beams cutting down through Lower Antelope Canyon near Page, Arizona — a narrow slot in Navajo sandstone that the midday sun turns into something otherworldly.
Antelope Canyon was cut by water, not wind, and almost entirely by flash floods — monsoon rain falling miles away, funnelling into the drainage and arriving with enough force and grit to scour the Navajo sandstone smooth. The slot is narrow and deep, so direct sun reaches the floor only for a short span around midday, and only where the opening above happens to line up. The canyon is on Navajo Nation land and can be entered only with Navajo guides.
Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
