The Story Behind This Print
An aerial abstract of glacier ice in Iceland, its crevasses and pressure ridges rendered as pure pattern from above.
Seen from the air a glacier stops reading as a landscape and starts reading as a record. The long parallel lines are crevasses, opened where the ice is being pulled faster than it can bend. The dark bands are moraine — rock torn off the valley walls and carried along on the surface, which is how you can tell where two separate ice streams have merged and kept flowing side by side without mixing. None of it is visible from the ground.
Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
