The Story Behind This Print
An aerial view over an Icelandic glacier, taken by drone — ice and rock rendered as pure texture from directly overhead.
Flying directly over ice removes the one thing that normally organises a glacier photograph, which is the horizon. What is left is the surface itself: meltwater channels cut into the top, dust and volcanic ash concentrated into dark streaks as the surface melts down, and crevasse fields running at angles that only make sense once you know which way the ice is moving. In Iceland the ash matters — eruptions upwind lay down layers that resurface years later as the ice above them wastes away.
Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
