The Story Behind This Print
Clouds had floated in and out and around Mount Fuji all afternoon, and just as the sun was setting we watched this lenticular cloud spin up into an amazing saucer hovering over the summit.
Lenticular clouds stand still while the air pours through them. Wind lifts over the mountain and falls again in a standing wave downstream; moisture condenses on the way up and evaporates on the way down, so the cloud holds its shape in one place for as long as the wave does.
Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
