The Story Behind This Print
Took the hike up to the Chureito Pagoda to watch the sunset, and caught the sun just behind the pagoda as it broke into a sunstar.
The star is the lens, not the light. Stopped down far enough, the blades of the aperture throw a point source into spokes — and the sun has to be caught exactly on an edge, which gives a window of a few seconds.
Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
