The Story Behind This Print
First light on Fitz Roy. I had heard that the weather here is usually the problem and often leaves the mountain shrouded. Not this morning — cold and windy, and well worth the effort.
That cloud is why the mountain is called Chaltén. The Tehuelche name is usually given as “smoking mountain”: the summit is wrapped so often that early European visitors took it for a volcano. The village at its foot is named for the same thing.
Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
