The Story Behind This Print

Same building, same story as Trapped — Kolmanskop, the diamond boomtown that thrived in the early 1900s and was abandoned when mining ceased in 1950. The desert has been reclaiming it ever since.

Where Trapped is a tight shot inside one room, this one pulls back to a doorway standing open onto the dunes beyond — the building no longer separates inside from outside so much as frames it. It’s less about being closed in and more about watching the desert exactly where a hallway used to be.

Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
