The Story Behind This Print
Delicate Arch, Utah’s most recognizable landmark, framed within the surrounding sandstone at Arches National Park.
Delicate Arch is free‑standing, which makes it unusual even in a park with more than two thousand catalogued arches. Most of the others are still windows in a wall of rock. This one lost its wall. The surrounding slickrock bowl is what makes the classic approach so abrupt — there is no view of the arch at all until the trail rounds the last ledge. Shooting it framed inside that rock rather than clear against the sky puts back some of the scale the open view strips away.
Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
