The Story Behind This Print
Castle Mountain sits in the Canadian Rockies just outside Banff, Alberta — one of those peaks whose name says exactly what it looks like, with sheer battlements and turrets carved straight out of limestone.
This was shot on an amazing afternoon just after a fresh snowfall, right as the clouds were beginning to clear. That combination — fresh snow still clinging to the rock, breaking cloud cover letting the light through in shifting patches — gave the mountain and its reflection a kind of light that only lasts for a few minutes before it’s gone.
Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
