The Story Behind This Print
Bryce Canyon’s main amphitheater at sunset, thousands of hoodoo spires catching the day’s last color as the sun drops behind distant plateaus.
Bryce is not a canyon. No river cut it — it is a series of amphitheatres eroded back into the edge of a plateau, and this is the largest of them. The hoodoos are made by water freezing in cracks overnight and thawing by day, more than two hundred times a year, prising the rock apart grain by grain. The harder layers survive as the caps and knobs. Everything about the shape of this view is a record of how often a winter here crosses freezing.
Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
