The Story Behind This Print

Cotton candy skies — that soft wash of pink and orange across the clouds — don’t happen just because the sun is coming up. You need clouds in the right shape, catching the light at exactly the right angle, and that part is mostly luck.

What isn’t luck is the composition. We were out well before sunrise, scouting the Quiver Tree Forest in the dark to find trees with the right shape and spacing to work as silhouettes. By the time the sun actually hit the clouds and the sky turned cotton candy pink, we already knew exactly where to stand — including the lone tree in Reach for the Sky, shot the same morning.

Each print begins as a Lumachrome exposure on metallic photographic paper, then is face-mounted beneath acrylic for extraordinary depth and color. Most images can also be custom-sized up to 120″ on the longest side — just ask.
